Attack on Cong over Dalit rights

1 min read

Patna: The BJP on Tuesday accused the Opposition of spreading rumours among Dalits to divide the Hindu society and the country.

Party national spokesperson Bizay Sonkar Shastri claimed efforts were being made to convert the Dalits to other religions in order to deprive them of reservation.

Deputy chief minister Sushil Kumar Modi spoke at length about the Centre and state’s steps to empower the Scheduled Castes and said no force can curtail reservations.

Bihar BJP chief Nityanand Rai was also present at the interaction with the media on the sidelines of the party’s SC wing workshop.

Shastri said: “Categorisation of Scheduled castes was done in 1935…. The constitutional safeguards… had been given by the Constitution… made by Ambedkar. What has Congress done for the community?”

Countered with a question about Bihar where large number of Dalits were in jail to prohibition, Shastri said leaders from the state would look into the issue.
