BJP call to EBCs for support

1 min read

Patna: The BJP on Friday projected itself as the “true saviour” of the Extremely Backward Classes (EBC) and came up with examples from the past as well as present to substantiate its claim.

The occasion was an event organised here by the EBC cell of the party to thank the Narendra Modi government for its step to appoint a commission for categorisation of the backward classes. Deputy chief minister Sushil Kumar Modi took the lead by urging people from the EBC community to vote for the NDA in the 2019 general elections to strengthen the hands of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Modi cited examples to claim the BJP had been a saviour of the community. “The erstwhile Jana Sangh was part of the Karpoori Thakur govern-ment in Bihar in 1978 when separate reservation for the community was given in government jobs. When the NDA came to power in the state in 2005, it gave 20 per cent reservation to the EBCs in local body polls whereas the RJD-Congress had conducted panchayat polls without giving any quota to the community in 2002,” he said.
