Flare-up cuffs on BJP duo(not Arjit)
2 min readPatna: Two BJP leaders, including executive committee member of the party’s state farmers’ cell Dinesh Jha, were arrested from Samastipur district on Thursday on the charge of inciting communal violence in Rosera, around 118km east of Patna, during a Ram Navami procession on Tuesday.
Another BJP leader and Union minister Ashwini Choubey’s son Arjit Shashwat, booked under non-bailable sections for a communal flare up at Nathnagar in Bhagalpur on March 17, however, continued to evade the long arm of the law.
The other BJP leader arrested for the Rosera violence is Mohan Patwa, a businessman. Local residents said Dinesh had earlier served as the BJP Samastipur district unit president and Rosera town unit president. Patwa is the in-charge of the district weavers’ cell of the BJP.
Samastipur superintendent of police (SP) Deepak Ranjan said the duo was apprehended on the basis of video footage of the incident at the sub-divisional headquarters town of the district.
At least six policemen, including additional superintendent of police Santosh Choudhary and two station house officers, had suffered injuries in the stone pelting.SP Ranjan said 10 other suspects were also taken into custody for interrogation. “The identity of other workers of the party is being ascertained with the help of the video footage. Raids are underway to nab others involved in allegedly trying to vitiate the environment and create law and order problems,” the SP said.
As news about the arrests spread in Rosera, BJP supporters held a protest. BJP Samastipur president Ram Subharath Mishra called the police action “one sided”.
The police later staged a flag march in town under the leadership of the SP.
Police sources said at least eight districts witnessed violent clashes pre- and post-Ram Navami: Bhagalpur, Nalanda, Nawada, Jamui, Aurangabad, Sheikhpura, Jamui and Munger.
Opposition parties alleged inaction against those fanning social tension.
“There is violence all over the state but the police have remained mute spectators for reasons best known to them,” said an RJD leader.
