sharada-sinhaThe Election Commission has appointed eminent folk singer and Padma Shri awardee Sharda Sinha as its brand ambassador to promote poll awareness in Bihar.

“Sharda Sinha has consented for this important honorary work. She is popular among the public across the state,” Additional Chief Electoral Officer R Lakshmanan said.

Sinha would be used in advertisements on radio and television to spread information among voters.

She will also participate in awareness campaigns and competitions organised in various districts of Bihar, Lakshmanan told reporters.

Sinha is the second artist to be appointed as the EC brand ambassador for Bihar after the television actress Ratan Rajput, popularly known by the name “Lalliya” on screen.

Be it songs in Maithili, Bhojpuri or Magahi languages, Sinha is a bid draw among households of the state. Folk songs sung by her have become an integral part of the Chhath festival.

Sinha has also sung for Bollywood movies like Gangs of Wasseypur-2, Hum Aapke Hain Kaun, and Maine Pyar Kiya.

Meanwhile, the EC has planned an awareness blitzkrieg for Bihar. Around 10 lakh posters printed in New Delhi are arriving soon. One hundred posters will be put up in each panchayat in the state.

“Bihar State Beverages Corporation and Bihar State Education Infrastructure Corporation will bear the Rs 40 lakh cost of these posters under their Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), added Lakshmanan.

Similarly, provisions have been made to print poll awareness messages at computer generated prescriptions at OPDs in primary health centres across the state. Around one lakh persons visit these centres daily.

Catchy slogans and messages will also be printed on acknowledgement receipts of ‘Right To Public Service’ applications, he added.
