Patna: A complainant claiming to be a victim of a robbery in Patna turned out to be the mastermind of the case, the police said.

On Monday, Aishwarya Kumar, working at Bandhan Bank’s micro-finance cell in Rajiv Nagar, registered an FIR at the Rajiv Nagar police station claiming armed criminals looted him while going to the bank to deposit Rs 3.10 lakh.

Based on an FIR, Patna senior superintendent of police (SSP) Manu Maharaaj constituted a police team to crack the case. The team went through CCTV footage in the area but found no loot. The police checked with its intelligence network but there too it drew a blank.

“The police then interrogated Aishwarya,” SSP Manu Maharaaj said. “During interrogation, Aishwarya broke down before police to say he and his friend Ravi Kumar had planted the loot story.” Aishwarya said the cash is with Ravi and he was going to deposit it in the bank.

The police arrested both Aishwarya and Ravi Kumar. The duo confessed that the money was collected from people under a micro-finance scheme and they planted the loot angle to misguide bank officials and the police. They also confessed that senior bank officials were also involved in the conspiracy. The police have seized Rs 3.10 lakh so far.
