1 min read

Ara: A teenaged girl, who was tied up and confined to a room for three months, allegedly because her father failed to pay a debt on time, escaped her abductors on Thursday evening and reached Bihia police station in the district.

Police lodged an FIR and arrested one person. Lamboo Kharwar of Tipura village had borrowed money from his neighbour K.P. Kharwar.

When he allegedly failed to repay his neighbour in time, Kharwar kidnapped Lamboo’s daughter Anjali Kumari, and confined her to a room with her legs tied with iron chains. Kharwar and his wife Arti Devi tortured and beat Anjali daily, forced her to work the whole day, and threatened to sell her into flesh trade and kill her younger brother if she dared to escape. Lamboo and the rest of his family escaped the village in fear of Kharwar.

By the time cops reached Kharwar’s house, the family had fled. Additional superintendent of police Manjeet Kumar said stern action would be taken against the culprits.
