Motihari: A liquor mafiosi and his associates attacked a police team at Kailashnagar village in Bagaha block under the Pathkhauli police station area on Tuesday night, leaving seven security personnel, including an assistant sub-inspector, injured.

Bagaha superintendent of police Arvind Gupta said the police party came under attack when they were returning after arresting a liquor mafiosi Vinay Jaiswal.

“Around 25 people attacked the police team and took away Vinay,” said Arvind, adding: “We have lodged an FIR against six persons.”

A team from Pathkhauli police comprising seven persons, including assistant sub-inspector Rambabu Bhagat rushed to the village following information about Vinay.

Around 1pm when the police party was returning from the village, it came under attack.

The injured policemen were taken to a government hospital in Bagaha.

Jaiswal was wanted in several cases by the police.

Recently, the Bagaha police had seized a huge consignment of liquor, belonging to Vinay’s gang, hidden in the Gandak river.
