1 min readPatna: A 17-year-old girl committed suicide in Kishanganj on Tuesday, allegedly frustrated at her boyfriend’s refusal to marry after she became pregnant and delivered a child a couple of days ago.
The girl tried to persuade her boyfriend’s family members and also knocked on the doors of the panchayat members but in vain. On Tuesday, she hanged herself.
Gangey Raghav, a police officer posted in Kishanganj, on Wednesday said the girl had fallen in love with Anil Kumar Singh (20) two years ago. “She was sexually exploited for about two years and conceived in the process. On Monday, she gave birth to a child. When her parents requested Anil’s family, they rejected the proposal. She was upset,” Raghav said, adding that Bahadurpur police recovered the girl’s body from her house in Takia village.
“A case under sections 306 and 34 of the IPC has been lodged on the statement of the girl’s mother,” he said. Ten persons have been accused. Raghav, the investigating officer, said: “We have launched raids to arrest the accused.”
The girl’s mother, who reached the sadar hospital to receive her daughter’s body after post-mortem, pleaded with mediapersons to help her get justice.
