PATNA: A team of Special Task Force (STF) nabbed two notorious criminals Vikash Kumar and Vipul Kumar from Patna airport premises on Friday evening while they were going to board a flight to Delhi to avoid police dragnet.
STF sources said that two flight tickets from Patna to Delhi was also recovered from them. They said that the duo were later handed over to Patna Police.
“Several cases of murder, extortion and loot were lodged against them with Patna and Bhojpur police. They were highly active in western Patna,” sources said.
Phulwarisharif SDPO Ramakant Prasad on Saturday said that altogether eight cases of extortion, loot and murder are lodged against the duo were Naubatpur police station.
“The duo were core members of gang operated by Ranjeet Chaudhary and his brother Pawan Chaudhary. The Chaudhary brothers were notorious gangsters were active in several districts of Bihar especially in Patna and Bhojpur,” Prasad said.
He said Ranjeet was arrested from Aurangabad on August 16 last year while Pawan was arrested from Bareilly on April 16 this year.
The SDPO said that on confessional statement of the duo, a semi-automatic country made pistol was along with ammunitions were recovered from possession of one Ranjay Sharma of Motipur village under Naubatpur police station area.
“Vikash is accused in a bank loot case that took place in Naubatpur almost seven to eight years back. Apart from this, he is also accused in several murder cases,” the SDPO said adding they were also in touch with Bhojpur police to know details of cases lodged against in the district.
He said Vikash and Vipul along with gang’s shooter Abhishek Singh had come to Bela under Naubatpur police station area from Bhojpur on May 20 to kill a prominent person.
“However, after some exchange of fire, Abhishek was nabbed with a semiautomatic country-made pistol, seven live cartridges and two stolen bike while the duo were successful in escaping. It was after this they planned to flee Delhi, With the duo’s arrest, all major members of the gang are now behind bars” the SDPO said adding they had given vital information to police during interrogation.
