POWER TO VETS: Assembly Speaker Vijay Kumar Chaudhary addresses a seminar organised by Bihar Veterinary Doctors’ Association at Adhiveshan Bhavan in Patna on Saturday to mark World Veterinary Day.

The seminar marked this year’s theme “Role of veterinary profession in sustainable development”. Nearly 150 veterinarians from across Bihar participated in the conference and expressed their views on improving livelihood and increasing food security through expansion of veterinary science.

Speaker Chaudhary said: “The role of veterinarians and experts have been crucial because of twin reasons. First, they prevent diseases among animals and avoid it spreading to humans, and second they ensure the health of livestock of farmers which can be converted into money anytime and anywhere.”

Alauddin Ahmed, former vice-chancellor of Jammu Kashmir Agriculture University, called for prudence in the veterinary profession through massive capacity building and skill upgrade programmes. “The role of veterinarians has been crucial in maintaining healthy livestock population in the state. It will continue to contribute to national growth.”
