PATNA: Bihar Opposition leader Tejashwi Yadav of RJD issued a “report card” on the Nitish Kumar-led NDA government and attacked the two main ruling parties – JD(U) and BJP – for their failure to deliver the promised development in the state.

“This government, which was formed through back-door entry of BJP, claims that there is now a double engine working to ensure Bihar’s rapid development. But instead of bringing welfare to the people, the government has led the state on the path of destruction,” said Yadav, the leader of Opposition in Bihar Assembly.

Hitting out at Chief Minister and JD(U) president Nitish Kumar for the “derailment” of his seven resolves programme, Yadav accused BJP of giving no importance to the aims of the programme because it was formulated during the grand alliance government, which fell in July 2017.

“Prohibition has been a total failure in Bihar. With home delivery of liquor continuing unabated, people from dalit communities and the poor are being pushed into jail. A BJP leader was so drunk that he mowed down schoolchildren under his SUV’s wheels,” said Yadav, 29, who is the younger son of RJD chief Lalu Prasad Yadav.

Although the state government maintains that investment proposals worth over Rs 9,000 crore have come to Bihar in the last 15 months, Tejashwi Yadav accused the government of being insincere about setting up industries and creating employment in the state. “No new factories came up in the state. This government is clearly not working sincerely in this matter,” he said.

Yadav also alleged that BJP and JD(U) were trying to ruin communal harmony in Bihar for political gains. “Dozens of cases of communal tension and nearly ten incidents of communal cashes have taken place in Bihar since the BJP-JD(U) government came to power. The government has been reluctant in arresting the perpetrators. Bihar’s peace-loving people will not forgive those who have caused such strife,” he added.

JD(U) and BJP leaders attacked Yadav over his “report card,” saying he has nothing to show by way of contribution to the state. “Tejashwi should first issue a report card on his illegally procured assets and tell Bihar’s people how he became so rich even when he was just 26,” said JD(U) spokesperson and MLC Sanjay Singh.
