Patna: Begusarai police on Wednesday arrested a man who they said had raped and murdered two children.

Keshav Kumar (20), a Class X dropout, was arrested from Dular village under the jurisdiction of Teghra police station in Begusarai district, around 120km northeast of Patna, a day after he allegedly tried to rape another child.

Keshav had on Tuesday allegedly lured a seven-year-old girl with chocolates. Local residents rushed to the spot on hearing the girl’s cries and rescued her.

Teghra sub-divisional police officer (SDPO) Raj Kishore Singh said that on April 2, Keshav had raped a nine-year-old girl and strangulated her to death. The girl’s body was found in a maize field on the outskirts of Dular village the next day. The SDPO said Keshav had lured the girl by offering her an ice cream. “The modus operandi was the same in all the incidents,” he said.

The cops believe Keshav was behind the rape and murder of another child, whose body was found on March 30.

“We hope such cases will come down after the psycho killer’s arrest,” said Teghra police station house officer Indubhushan.
