Sharad Yadav slams Cong, BJP; says lofty slogans won’t help in polls

sharad-yadavPatna: JD(U) president Sharad Yadav today launched a scathing attack on both BJP and Congress, saying their “lofty” slogans will prove futile in the elections.

“Earlier Congress’ ‘garibi hatao’ and BJP’s ‘India shinning’ have proved futile… BJP and Congress are again resorting to lofty slogans,” Yadav told reporters here.

Criticising “personality-based” campaigns of the two parties, Yadav said, “How come these leaders who are being portrayed in the campaign, will bring a turnout in the country?”

“These leaders and parties are singing ‘phag’ song (songs sang on the eve of Holi) across the country, which is not impressing people,” he said.

He alleged that corporate houses were behind such campaigns and the media was playing to their tune.

The JD(U) president, who himself is in the fray from the Madhepura constituency, criticised BJP and Congress for fielding a lot of filmstars and cricketers.

“Are they planning to make the election a film studio or treat Parliament as a cricket field,” he said.

On Narendra Modi accusing Congress of promoting animal slaughter through ‘pink revolution’, Yadav said “wasn’t the same being done in BJP-ruled states?”

Asked about Rahul Gandhi’s comments on why Nitish Kumar kept silent as a NDA minister during the 2002 Godhra riots, the JD(U) chief said it was the media which had turned Rahul a big leader, but he didn’t consider him to be so.

On Rahul’s questioning the developmental claims of Kumar, Yadav refuted the allegation and said, “Nitish Kumar has put Bihar on the right path.”
