Patna: Police have set up a special investigation team (SIT) to probe marble dealer Sushil Kumar Singh’s murder at Hajipur in Vaishali district on Tuesday evening.

Sushil, 45, of Rambhadra in Hajipur district headquarters town, was sitting in his shop when two men entered and shot him dead. Sushil’s driver Raju pelted one assailant with stones and had a close shave when he fired back.

SIT members led by Hajipur additional superintendent of police Ajay Kumar obtained CCTV footage of the incident and launched raids. Hajipur Industrial police station house officer Madhurendra Kumar said Sushil’s name had figured in a murder case. “We’re probing all angles,” he said. A sniffer dog was deployed. Sushil was district president of Karni Sena, which had demanded a ban on Hindi movie Padmavat. His younger brother Chandan Kumar is associated with the RJD’s students’ wing.

Vaishali superintendent of police (SP) Manavjeet Singh Dhillon said on Wednesday that efforts were on to nab the shooters on the basis of the CCTV clips.

“Relatives of the dead have not been identify suspects whose pictures were shown to them,” he said.

A spurt in the criminal activities in Vaishali district has left the businessmen shocked. They have threatened to launch an agitation if the killers were not arrested soon.
