Three held for drinking in office

Bettiah: Two employees of the district revenue office and a roadside vendor were arrested for allegedly consuming liquor inside the revenue office on the collectorate premises in Motihari on Friday evening.

Excise superintendent Keshav Jha said the breathalyser test conducted on them showed they had been consuming liquor. “Raids are on to nab Premchand Baitha and Pramod Kumar. While Premchand is the head clerk, Pramod is an employee of the revenue office. They escaped minutes before the raid was conducted,” Jha said.

Those arrested include Manoj Kumar Pandey and Sanjay Kumar, assistants in the district revenue office, and Sunil Kumar, the vendor.

Acting on a tip-off, Motihari district magistrate (DM) Raman Kumar and excise superintendent Keshav Jha conducted a raid and found Manoj, Sanjay and Sunil consuming liquor on the premises.

An empty bottle and some edibles were seized during the raid conducted around 7.30pm.

In another incident, East Champaran police seized huge quantity of liquor during raids at separate places in the past 24 hours. Around 2,100 liquor bottles were seized from Ghodasahan and 60 bottles at Sagauli.

Accident

Two persons were killed after they were knocked down by a speeding truck on DAV More under Mufassil police station in Motihari in East Champaran district on Saturday morning.

Police said the identities of the deceased have not yet been ascertained.

Residents blocked National Highway 28 on the Motihari Kotwa road in protest against the accident.
