Toll killer was jailed for fraud

2 min read

Patna: Police are not sure about the identity of the person who fired and killed an employee of a toll plaza on National Highway 77 under the jurisdiction of Sarai police station in Vaishali district two days ago.

They are trying to track the owner of the car from which people had alighted to pick up a fight with the plaza employee.

The car owner is a resident of Gaya district and raids are on to nab him. His arrest will be important, as the police are uncertain at present as to who actually fired at the toll plaza employee.

“We have found that the owner of the car involved in the murder of toll plaza employee Mukesh Kumar is from Gaya district. He has been identified and raids are being conducted to arrest him. Once he is nabbed, we will be able to trace other persons involved in the incident,” said Vaishali superintendent of police (SP) Manavjeet Singh Dhillon.

Though the Vaishali SP did not reveal the name of the car owner, he added that the person being hunted was a “fraudster-businessman” with criminal antecendents and had previously been jailed in a fraud related case lodged at Khisersarai police station in Gaya.

Dhillon added that the police, after going through the CCTV footage procured from the toll plaza, was not sure about who fired the shot at Mukesh.

“Three persons had alighted from the car, but the CCTV footage doesn’t show who actually fired at Mukesh. Some eyewitnesses say that a person wearing a blue shirt fired the shot, while others say somebody else did,” the SP said.

Mukesh was killed on Saturday evening after an altercation with people travelling in the car, who were trying to pass the toll plaza through the VIP lane without buying a toll ticket.

The assailants fled the spot in the vehicle, which was later found abandoned near Hathsarganj on Hajipur-Lalganj road in Vaishali on Saturday night.
