Patna: The Government Railway Police (GRP) on Friday claimed to have cracked the case of stabbing of two train passengers in the wee hours of Tuesday.

The GRP on Thursday night arrested Monu alias Dubki from Bankaghat (Patna City) area in connection with the murders. Monu is the main accused in the case as he plotted the loot incidents. On Thursday night, the GRP raided Monu’s house at Bankaghat and recovered the looted Rs 5,000 and the cellphone of Rudal, one of the dead passengers. Monu had dumped it behind his house after breaking it. The police also arrested Monu’s accomplice Rahul Kumar from Parsa Bazar area. The weapons (knives) used in the murders were recovered from a makeshift shop near Sipara bridge.

Rudal Yadav, 35, and Sujit Kumar, 30, were stabbed in two separate incidents when they resisted the criminals’ bid to loot them along the railway track near Kathpul, a stretch between Patna Junction and Rajendra Nagar Terminal, around 4.40am on Tuesday.

“It was Monu who executed the plan to loot passengers along with four of his friends,” superintendent of railway police, Patna, Ashok Kumar Singh said. “Around 11.30pm on Monday night, Monu and four others reached Kathpul area and took shelter in a cow-shed.” Early on Tuesday morning they moved to a railway coach stranded on the track. Around 3.30am, the criminals noticed Sujit Kumar waking towards Patna Junction. Sujit, 30, a private security guard working in Kankerbagh area, was returning to him home in Punpun. The five criminals looted Rs 3,200 from him and stabbed him to death.

After stabbing Sujit, the criminals dumped his body inside the women’s compartment of the Patna-Gaya passenger train.

As Sujit had just Rs 3,200 on him, the criminals decide to target other passengers. After waiting for around half an hour, they noticed two men walking towards Kathpul from Patna Junction side. Rudal and Rambhu, the two Madhepura labourers, had reached Patna Junction on the Amritsar-Howrah Express and were going to board the Patna Saharsa Express from Rajendra Nagar. When the two reached near Kathpul, the criminals attacked them. After looting Rs 22,000 from them, the criminals stabbed Rudal to death while Rambhu managed to escape.

Since Tuesday, Patna GRP and local police personnel had conducted raids at various places. Railway police have decided to felicitate personnel who were part of the investigation team.
