PATNA: Two girl students committed suicide and a third one made an unsuccessful attempt after the Bihar School Examination Board (BSEB) announced its Class XII results on Tuesday.
Khusbu Kimari (16) hanged herself from the ceiling at her maternal grandfather’s house in village Palatkhar Jogia Talab under Pirpainti police station in Bhagalpur district and Kiran Kumari (17) of Kasaria village in Buxar district jumped on the track before a running train near Raghunathpur railway station on Tuesday evening.
Quoting one of the friends of Khushbu, Pirpainti police station SHO Parshuram Singh said the girl started crying soon after she was told about her result. “Her family members said she continued crying for almost two hours after which she went inside her room and locked it from inside before hanging herself with her stole,” the SHO said. He said the family members went out of their house and came to know about the incident after they returned. The SHO said Khusbu belonged to Sahibganj in Jharkhand and was residing at her maternal grandfather’s house at Pirpainti for her studies.
According to Buxar GRP SHO Ali Akbar Khan, while a friend of Kiran (17) told her that she failed in the examination, but her father Kuber Kumar told her that she had passed. Later, the girl went out of her residence and her body was found on the track, around 3km from the village. In fact, the girl passed the examination in third division.
“Kiran’s father said he had never expected her to take such an extreme step as she was a timid girl,” the SHO said.
Another girl reportedly attempted suicide in Sheikhpura district but she was prevented by one of her family members.
Meanwhile, failed students in several districts, including Saharsa and Sasaram, staged protest against the poor Class XII results and also burned the effigy of education minister Ashok Choudhary and BSEB chairman Anand Kishor.
Out of the 12.61 lakh students who appeared for the Class XII examination, over 8 lakh students failed.
