A woman and her associate, allegedly involved in the abduction of a 24-year-old man, were beaten up by a mob at Algana More in Jehanabad district and later arrested, police said today.

The incident took place last night when a mob accused a middle-aged woman and her associate with abduction of Neeraj Kumar, who hails from Tekari in neighbour Gaya district and was involved in land dealings, and attacked them, Sub-Divisional Police Officer Vakil Ahmed said.

The duo was later arrested on the basis of an FIR lodged by Neeraj’s father Duleshwar Sharma, he said.

“Raids were being carried out to search for Neeraj, who ‘mysteriously disappeared’ after coming to Jehanabad town with Rs 15 lakh cash to help the same woman purchase a plot a couple of days ago,” the SDPO said.

The injured woman was taken to Patna Medical College and Hospital in a critical condition while her associate was admitted to a local hospital.

Ahmed denied as ‘rumour’ reports that the woman was disrobed by the mob.
