Violent protests in Bihar over Railway job reservation to ITI holders, revised age limit

Patna: Thousands of unemployed youths on Sunday staged violent protest in various cities of Bihar against reservation of Group D Railway jobs to ITI holders and revision of age limit.

The massive protests on Sunday in Patna, Aurangabad and Vaishali districts were held two days after similiar protest in Aara.

Video footage of the protest uploaded on YouTube showed thousands of youths holding placards and shouting anti-government slogans outside Rafiganj railway station in Aurangabad district, Athamgola railway station in Patna district and Hajipur railway station in Vaishali district.

Protesters are seen sitting on railway track, blocking the trains and disrupting regular traffic. According to reports, some police personnel have been injured when the angry protesters pelted stones.

The Railway Recruitment Boards (RRB) had started receiving from Saturday February 10, 2018 online applications through the Indian Railways website to fill over 62,000 Group D posts in different categories.

The last date to apply for exactly 62,907 RRB CEN 02/2018 Group D posts in level 1 of 7th CPC pay matrix is set as March 12, 2018. The Railway board did not announce the date of exam as of now.

According to the notification, the exam will be Computer based test (CBT) and it will contain questions on reasoning, aptitude and skills. On the basis of the computer-based test, the candidates will be shortlisted for the next stage of the recruitment process.

RRB CEN 02/2018 Group D posts include Track Maintainer grade IV (Trackman), Gateman, Pointsman, Helpers in Electrical/ Mechanical/ Signal & Telecommunication departments, porter, etc.

The Railway Recruitment Board (RRB) was established in 1988. It is responsible for the appointment of new employees to work for various posts at Indian Railways. It calls eligible candidates for recruitment of various Technical, Non-Technical and Para Medical Posts in Group A, B, C and D Cadres through Online Application / Offline Application Format.
