Dinesh Mahto, the Station House Officer of Roshanganj police station, while heading an operation against the Maoists received a bullet injury in his thigh.

Mahto was taken to a local hospital for treatment.

Earlier, the COBRA battalion, the Special Task Force and the local police received a tip off about the movement of about 200 Maoists in the area and launched an operation.

According to media reports, the encounter lasted several hours.

The Maoists control a forested, and mineral-rich belt that stretches over 22 of India’s 28 states. But their influence remains largely restricted to the countryside and small towns.
