Arrest warrant out for MLC’s sons

2 min read

Patna: A local court here on Thursday issued an arrest warrant against BJP MLC Awadesh Narayan Singh’s sons Sushant Rajan and Prashant Ranjan for allegedly thrashing a woman with the intention of sexually assaulting her.

The warrant, said Patna superintendent of police (SP), central, D. Amarkesh, was issued under section 345(B) of the IPC (assault or use of criminal force to woman with intent to disrobe her), which is non-bailable.

The 24-year-old complainant, who works as a flight attendant with a private airline, had filed an FIR with the Mahila (women) police station alleging that Singh’s sons held her captive in a room at their father’s 2 Circular Road government bungalow on May 16 and also thrashed her with the intention of sexually assaulting her.

On Wednesday evening, Patna police went to 2 Circular Road in search of Sushant and Ranjan but the brothers were not there.

Sources said that Singh – who is considered close to chief minister Nitish Kumar – has hired a senior Patna High Court advocate to fight his sons’ case.

The sources also said that Singh’s lawyer will move an application in court for anticipatory bail in the case.

“The two youths can get bail if they surrender before the chief judicial magistrate’s court,” explained Patna High Court advocate S.K. Mangalam.

“Also, the two persons can get bail if the lawyer moves an anticipatory bail in court seeking bail in the case.”

Patna police sources said the cops sprung into action – after initially treading with caution – after the woman recorded her statement twice before the police.

The complainant on Wednesday also met MLC Awadesh Narayan Singh, and in a conversation with The Telegraph narrated her ordeal. She alleged that Sushant had been pestering her on her mobile phone and she had blocked him.

“But he had threatened to commit suicide if I did not come to meet him at his father’s residence on May 16. I got scared and had gone to settle the matter with him at his residence after my morning walk. I was molested and beaten up by Sushant and his brother Prashant,” she said.

During her meeting with MLC Singh as well, she stood her ground and said she would not withdraw her case though she had no problem with him.
