Congress leader to review poll preparations

Patna: Senior Congress leader and party in charge for Bihar, Satyavrat Chaturvedi will arrive here on a day long tour on April 20 to review preparations for the remaining four phases of LS poll in the state.

Congress, which got a total of 12 seats in Bihar in seat-sharing with RJD RJD-NCP, is contesting from eight constituencies in the remaining four phases. These are: Supaul, Kishanganj and Purnia in third phase, Samastipur in fourth phase, Muzaffarpur, Hajipur and Valmikinagar in fifth phase and Gopalganj in sixth and last phase.

During his visit, Chaturvedi will hold a meeting of senior Congress leaders at Sadaquat Ashram here to discuss issues related to the Lok Sabha elections and issue instructions to workers to ensure the victory of all party candidates in the state, said BPCC vice-president Prem Chandra Mishra on Friday. AICC secretary in charge, Bihar, Paresh Dhanani will also be present at the crucial meeting, to be presided over by BPCC president Ashok Choudhary.

Former Union minister and party general secretary Shakeel Ahmed will arrive here on April 19. He will reach Katihar on April 20 and address a series of election meetings in Katihar parliamentary constituency in favour of NCP candidate and Union minister Tariq Anwar. Anwar, who is contesting as Congress-RJD-NCP alliance candidate, is locked in a triangular contest with sitting MP Nikhil Kumar Choudhary (BJP) and Ram Prakash Mahto of JD (U).
