IG gets show-cause notice for stir speech

1 min read

Patna: The state police HQ on Monday issued a show-cause notice to ADG R K Mishra, a 1986-batch IPS officer, after he was relieved for central deputation.

Principal secretary (home) Amir Subhani told TOI the notice pertained to an alleged speech made by Mishra at a Vidyapati function at Darbhanga about seven-eight months back. According to reports, Mishra along with others had called upon the gathering at the function to agitate for the cause of Mithilanchal.

Sources said a senior police officer had earlier written to the government to initiate departmental proceedings against Mishra, but the home department reportedly did not agree with the move and instead referred the matter to the chief secretary. The chief secretary had also agreed with the home department and the matter was referred for closure, the sources said and added Mishra was thus cleared for the central deputation.

However, the police HQ later issued a show-cause notice to Mishra, a move that was OK’d by the government. Subhani, however, said he did not have details.

Mishra has left for Delhi to join the CRPF HQ. He is likely to be deputed at the Patna office of the central force as its IG.

The police HQ had last year initiated departmental proceedings against then DIG Saran Alok Kumar and then Sheikhpura SP Rana Ansuiya Singh and issued show-cause notice to SP Babu Ram.
