Mahadalit woman thrashed, in hospital

2 min read

Patna: A 55-year-old Mahadalit woman, a resident of Karet Pali village in Patna rural, is struggling for life after she was attacked on June 13 by some influential people following a dispute over a plot of land.

Minti Devi was earlier admitted to a government hospital in Naubatpur, from where she has been referred to Patna Medical College and Hospital (PMCH).

“My wife was badly beaten up and tortured; she had to be administered stitches on her head,” said Nirmal Ram, Minti’s husband.

Ram said that his wife was alone in their house when a group of “influential people” attacked their house and assaulted Minti on June 13 this year.

Ram said that he feared more attacks on his family. He said that he has already shifted his children outside their ancestral village as a precautionary measure.

“This is not the first time when they have assaulted us. We have been told to abandon the house and settle elsewhere. I suspect that they will attack us again. The local police are hands in glove with the accused,” Ram told The Telegraph over phone on Friday.

The police complaint names Gaurav Sharma, Sirsu Sharma and Vickson Sharma. They have been accused of hatching a conspiracy to forcibly grab Ram’s ancestral land at the village.

An officer at the Naubatpur police station, however, said that counter FIRs have been filed in connection with the incident. Ram and his family members have been accused of misbehaving with the family members of Sharma. When contacted, Naubatpur police station house officer R.K. Tiwari said that the case was under investigation.
