Motihari: A 65-year-old man was hacked to death by a group of villagers in East Champaran district on Wednesday late evening.

The incident occurred at Pundar village falling under Bajitpur panchayat in Madhuban police station, about 165km north of Patna, when victim Baidnath Mahato, 65, raised objections over gambling outside his house around 8pm on Wednesday.

Police said those playing cards subjected Mahato to bullying when he asked them to leave the place. Irked by this, he threw a piece of stone on them who, in turn, dragged and attacked him with rod. The victim died on the spot.

Station house officer of Madhuban police station Amit Kumar said a case has been registered against three persons in this connection.

“A search is on to nab the accused,” said Madhuban SHO.
