The horrors of shelter homes, remand homes and other such facilities seem to be unending in Bihar with a fresh case of physical and sexual abuse of juveniles reported from Bhojpur district.

The latest incident is of a remand home for juveniles at Dharhara in Ara, where at least three inmates have alleged that they were physically assaulted and sodomised by seven or eight inmates of the facility.

“On Wednesday morning, first they thrashed us and after that they took us to the washroom and sexually assaulted us. There were seven-eight people involved in it. They threatened us with dire consequences if we spoke about it to anyone,” one of the victims said on camera.

The matter came to light when the parent of one of the victims came for his release following approval of bail. “My child was terrorised and when we inquired, he told us that he and other were physically and sexually assaulted after which we took up the matter with the officials,” he said.

An FIR has been lodged in connection with the incident against seven inmates of the Dharhara remand home, Bhojpur Superintendent of Police Avkash Kumar said and added, “Prima facie, we found visible bruises on the back and other body parts of the victims following which the case was registered against seven named accused.”
