PATNA: The Bihar State Power Holding Company Limited (BSPHCL) has dismissed information technology (IT) manager Neeraj Kumar, who was recruited on his fake Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) score. Surprisingly, no FIR has been lodged despite his dismissal on June 2.

The BSPHCL has also ordered IT managers and assistant engineers recruited on the basis of their GATE score and interview to share their GATE ID and password for their score verification, or else their salary would be stopped. On June 7, BSPHCL issued a list of 39 such engineers and IT managers, who were yet to turn up before the officials concerned for scorecard verification.

Neeraj was appointed on August 24, 2016 on the basis of interview and showing his GATE score as 740. He had applied for the job in the backward class category, but was selected in unreserved category due to his “fake” GATE score. BSPHCL has received complaint about some other recruitments made over the last few years on fake GATE score.

When contacted, energy department principal secretary Pratyaya Amrit said Neeraj was dismissed for producing forged documents and the salary paid to him was recovered according to rules of appointment. When asked why an FIR was not lodged in the case, Amrit said, “Please leave it (the matter) to us.”

According to the dismissal letter, BSPHCL received complaint with proof that Neeraj had scored only 297 in GATE. It was also found true from the QR code on Neeraj’s GATE scorecard. BSPHCL had sent a special messenger to IIT Kanpur on May 31 for verification of several GATE scorecards, including that of Neeraj. BSPHCL sought an explanation from Neeraj on May 31, but instead of replying, he put in his papers on June 1 in the back date of May 29.

His dismissal was made effective from the date of his appointment. His dismissal letter mentioned the conditions of Neeraj’s appointment, that “if any information given by you with regards to your qualification, date of birth, caste and creamy layer certificate, document certificate etc is found incorrect or if any discrepancy is found in part or full at any time during the period of your employment, your services will be terminated with retrospect effect and legal action will be initiated as well as the pay and allowances received by you on this account will be recovered”.
