Robbers shoot at trader, loot Rs 12 lakh
2 min readPatna: A gang of armed robbers shot at a man and looted Rs 12 lakh cash from an edible oil dealer in Saran on Sunday.
The incident took place around 5.30pm, when a businessman, Vinod Kumar Gupta, was returning to Chhapra from Doriganj after collecting money in his car. A group of criminals intercepted his car and fired at him from close range.
But the bullet missed the target and hit the driver, Nagendra Rai. The robbers snatched the bag containing the money from Vinod and fled. Nagendra was rushed to a local hospital in critical condition.
Saran superintendent of police Har Kishore Rai said the borders of the district had already been sealed and a vehicle-checking drive had been launched to nab the criminals involved in the incident. An FIR has been lodged with the Doriganj police station on the statement of Vinod Gupta.
A forensic team visited the spot and collected evidence from the car in which the victims were travelling. Vinod told the investigating officials that the criminals were travelling in a sports utility vehicle, which suggested that they were aware of his movements.
“It seems that they were following us in an SUV, which is yet to be seized,” said the edible oil dealer, and added that the robbers had also taken away their mobiles.
A police officer posted at Doriganj police station said Nagendra Rai, a resident of Telpa village in Saran district, had been referred to Patna Medical College and Hospital for better treatment. Nagendra suffered injuries around his neck, he added.
