Patna: A dispute over a cricket match cost a 16-year-old boy his life at a village in Saran district, around 60km north of Patna, late on Friday night.

Reports said Rajesh Kumar and his associates attacked Sunny Kumar when he was at his house at Bastijalal village under the jurisdiction of Dighwara police station. Initially, the two groups had exchanged words, which led to the firing.

Sunny and his younger brother Lucky Singh suffered bullet injuries in the firing. While Sunny died on way to the Chhapra sadar hospital, Lucky is undergoing treatment.

Lucky told the police that Sunny had an altercation with Rajesh and his friends over a cricket match on Friday.

Rajesh had allegedly warned Sunny of dire consequences after the match. Around 8pm on Friday, Rajesh along with his associates reached Sunny’s house and fired at him.

When Lucky came to his rescue, he too was attacked and suffered bullet injuries.

The deceased’s father Ramji Prasad is a soldier in the Indian Army.

A police officer posted at Dighwara police station said four out of the five accused have been arrested in the case and raids were underway to nab the fifth accused.

Two of the arrested identified as Kunal Kumar and Rajiv reportedly admitted to the crime and revealed the names of their associates.

An investigating officer said an old dispute between the family members of Rajesh and Sunny was stated to be the reason behind the incident.
