Patna: The office of the chancellor has convened a meeting of vice-chancellors (VCs) of state universities at Raj Bhavan on Tuesday.

Sources said the chancellor will go through the task assigned to VCs, such as maintaining academic calendar, online admission process in universities and progress in setting up biometric attendance machines to note attendance of teachers.

“The state education department spends a large part of its budgetary allocation on salaries to teachers,” a senior Raj Bhavan official said. “But it has been observed that teachers, especially those working in rural areas, are not regular in class and it leads to poor attendance of students in college too.”

The official said: “The chancellor will go through progress in installing biometric attendance machines in universities office. Those universities which are lagging behind in installing biometric machines will be asked to complete the process by beginning of the next academic session.”

Sources said that except for Patna University, most universities are slow in installing biometric machines.

The chancellor’s office will also go through preparations for combined BEd entrance test to be conducted by Aryabhatta Knowledge University (AKU). Only those who train in colleges recognised by NCTE for session 2018-20 and affiliated with a state universities will be allowed to write the BEd entrance test. As per the new schedule, the entrance test for the two-year BEd course will be held on July 15 and not July 1 as stated earlier.
