Retired teachers submit memo to LNMU VC
2 min readMADHUBANI: A delegation of retired teachers of LN Mithila University (LNMU) led by former general secretary of the teachers’ association Prof Amaresh Shandilya met the vice-chancellor, SP Singh, and submitted their 11-point charter of demands on Monday.
Their demands include immediate compliance of the Lokayukta’s order regarding payment of 131 day’s salary for strike-period, calculation of earned leave (EL) of retired teachers in the light of said order, payment of arrears difference of dearness allowances (DA), house rent allowance (HRA) and medical allowance from January 2006 to March 2010 among others.
The varsity officials informed the delegation that while Lokayukta’s order is being implemented expeditiously, further clarifications from the state government is needed. The argument that Lokayukta must have passed the order only after considering the provisions of the statute was, however, was of no avail.
As briefed by the registrar and the pension officer, the VC expressed his inability to pay the arrears related to DA, HRA and medical allowance from January 2006 to March 2010 in view of the express orders from the state government.
Regarding payment of dues against group insurance with compound interest at the rate of 12.5%, the university administration admitted that those who got a court order in this regard have been accordingly paid, others will not be paid with compound interest at that rate.
Sources claimed that the VC also told the delegation of retired teachers that though a court order expressly asks not to stop calculation of earned leave (EL) at the ceiling of 300 days in case of striking teachers, but a statute for universities in the state bars from doing so.
Other demands with no financial implications were assured to be considered sympathetically. Members of the delegation included Narendra Narain Singh ‘Nirala’ and Harishankar Jha from Madhubani district and Nirmal Prasad Singh, Ramesh Jha, Vashishtha Narain Singh and UK Sinha, all from Samastipur district.
