New case on Brajesh over missing girls

Patna: A fresh FIR has been lodged against Brajesh Thakur and other employees of the non-government organization Seva Sankalp Evam Vikas Samiti at Muzaffarpur in connection with the mysterious disappearance of 11 residents from the shelter home for lost and destitute women above 18 years of age.
Thakur is the prime accused in the Muzaffarpur Balika Grih sexual abuse case currently being probed by the CBI.
Assistant director of the district child protection unit, Devesh Kumar Sharma, lodged an FIR with the Muzaffarpur women’s police station on Monday, alleging that 11 women were found to be missing from the shelter home “Swadhar Kendra” in Muzaffarpur.
In the police complaint, Sharma alleged that a total of 27 women were enrolled at the shelter home for destitute women above 18 years of age. However, 11 women were found missing from the shelter home during inspection by a team on June 9, 2018, in the wake of the alleged sexual exploitation of minor girls living at Balika Grih in May this year.
The registers and other documents seized from the “Swadhar Kendra” funded by the central government revealed that 27 women were staying there. “The employees at the Swadhar Kendra told us that these women had left the shelter home on their own. The shelter home was running despite funds being stopped by the central government,” Sharma said in the FIR.
The complaint has also questioned the manner in which licences for running so many shelter homes were issued to the Seva Sankalp Evam Vikas Samiti. At least three shelter homes were running in Muzaffarpur and one at Bettiah.
NGO owner Thakur and nine others are at present languishing in jail in connection with the sexual abuse case.
Director of social welfare Raj Kumar said on Tuesday that the department was not directly responsible for the affairs at Swadhar Kendra as it was funded by the central government. However, a team visited the centre and found some of the residents missing from there, he added.
The remaining 16 women living at Swadhar Kendra were shifted to Begusarai.
