Kilkari kids put up special performance

Patna: Around 500 slum children celebrated Independence Day with much pomp and show at Kilkari Bihar Bal Bhavan’s Saidpur campus on Wednesday.

Kids associated with Kilkari put up an array of cultural programmes on the occasion. The celebrations started with the flag-hoisting by Kilkari Bihar Bal Bhavan director Jyoti Parihar, followed by a presentation of patriotic songs like Mera mulk mera desh mera ye watan, Ae watan ae watan humko teri kasam, Dil diya hai jaan bhi denge and others. Ten students of Kilkari’s painting class painted 6×3 feet a Tricolour on canvas.

Later, children staged three plays on the life of Bapu – Ek Tha Mohan, Chori Aur Prashyachit and Jhuth Nahi Bolna. The sculpture department students made a sculpture of Bapu. Children also recited poems. Parihar, in her speech, reminded people about the sacrifices made by freedom fighters. She said the celebration was different at Kilkari as slum children themselves decorated the whole campus with Tricolours and balloons.

Differently-abled children at the special school, Samarpan, also celebrated Independence Day with fervour and enthusiasm. The flag-hoisting ceremony was followed by a yoga session. A fancy dress competition was also organised on the occasion in which differently-abled kids spoke a few lines on the character they were playing.

Abhishek Raj,14, a special kid, who had come dressed up as Lord Krishna, won the fancy dress competition.

Amisha Prakash, 15, a hearing unabled, who won the second prize, came dressed as Sita, while Mansi, 20, who came third, came dressed as a social activist. Sixteen-year-old Jai Kumar, a special child, played the role of the freedom fighter Subhash Chandra Bose in a short play while Adnan, another special kid of same age, played the role of Mahatma Gandhi.

State disabilities commissioner Shivajee Kumar, Samarpan principal Lakshmikant Kumar, social activist Neelam Singh and disability expert Neetu Ranjan were among the dignitaries present.
