3 cyber criminals arrested in Patna

PATNA: The Patna police on Friday arrested three cyber criminals from different locations in the city who were involved in swapping ATM cards at ATM kiosks, hacking ATM machines and doing fraudulent online shopping for the last several months in Patna.

The arrested criminals were Mohit Kumar and Pappu Kumar of Wajirganj and Brajesh Kumar of Atri, all in Gaya district.

Police also recovered debit and credit card swapping machines and some other equipment used to fix damaged magnetic stripes of cards along with Rs 96000, one laptop, four ATM cards and two cellphones.

Patna SSP Manu Maharaaj said that they used to hack ATM machines after which in guise of helping customers, the arrested persons swapped victim’s ATM cards and know the PIN codes which they used to feed in machine while withdrawing money. He said the ATM cards of victims were later also used in online shopping.

Police sources said the gang’s three main masterminds Dheeraj Kumar, Priyank Kumar and Manish Kumar were still evading arrest. They said Dheeraj and Priyank were earlier arrested by Kanpur police too.
