Increase in crime against Scheduled Caste under NDA : NCRB data

Crimes against Scheduled Caste (SC) have increased in the NDA regime, data by the National Crime Records Bureau reveals. According to the NCRB data, 1,06,782 incidents of crime against Scheduled Caste were recorded during 2011-2013, while the number went up to 1,19,872 in the period 2014-2016.

NCRB data also reveals that conviction rate during the UPA government’s time was higher than the conviction rate during NDA government’s time.

In 2011, 32 per cent cases saw the conviction of the accused person. The percentage was 24 per cent in 2012 and 2013. The data shows a steep decline in the conviction rate in during NDA regime. The conviction rate was 24.5 per cent in 2014, 25.5 per cent in 2016 and 25.7 per cent in 2016.

The data also reveals that crime against the Scheduled Caste went down by 4.3 per cent between 2014-2015. The crime rate, though, went up by 5.5 per cent between 2015 and 2016.

Moreover, most number of crimes against Scheduled Caste were recorded in Uttar Pradesh. According to the NCRB data, 10,426 cases, i.e. 25.6 per cent of total cases from across the country of crime against Scheduled Caste were recorded in 2016 in UP.

Bihar followed UP in crimes against Scheduled Caste with 5,701 cases, i.e. 14 per cent of reported cases. Rajasthan is at the third position with 5,134 reported cases of crime against Scheduled Caste.

West Bengal (3 per cent), Jharkhand (1.3 per cent) and Kerala (2 per cent) have the least rate of crimes against Scheduled Caste.
