Civic projects’ pace shocks mayor
2 min readPatna: Almost half of the Patna Municipal Corporation (PMC) projects of the financial year 2016-17 remain incomplete, a departmental review meeting chaired by mayor Sita Sahu on Thursday found.
Sahu, who reviewed the progress in PMC projects of the financial years 2016-17 and 2017-18, found that projects from 2016-17 were pending in all the PMC circles.
These projects are related to the Mukhyamantri Kachhi Nali Gali Yojana and the councillors’ development funds.
Each councilor was entitled to Rs 50 lakh as development fund in the 2016-17 fiscal but only 70 per cent of the councillors’ funds had been used for development-related works.
The remaining funds remained unutilised.
“It was found that around 40 per cent work of the 2016-17 projects was incomplete in the Patna City circle while in Bankipore circle, around 90 per cent work of the same financial year was complete,” said a source who took part in Thursday’s meeting.
“In Kankerbagh circle, around 40 per cent work of the 2016-17 project is incomplete,” the source added.
The progress in projects of the 2017-18 financial year is better.
“Around 80 per cent of its work is complete while tender has been floated for the remaining work,” the source said.
Sahu later issued directions that no files related to waterlogging related work or any other civic work should be left on any official’s desk for more than three days, otherwise the official concerned would have to face the music.
A separate meeting was convened by the environment and forest department on Thursday in which PMC officials were issued several directions.
One of the directions issued to the municipal corporation staff was that garbage collection vehicles should be covered so that the trash they collect does not spill over onto the roads en route.
PMC officials were also asked to use water sprinklers on the main roads of the city, including Bailey Road, from May to fight the dust menace.
Directions were also given not to burn garbage in the open, said a source who was present at the meeting.
PMC officials were also given directions to ensure use of fly ash bricks in construction work projects of their respective departments, said the source.
