MLA sister’s killers sentenced

Ara: A local court on Tuesday awarded rigorous life imprisonment to three persons and slapped a fine of Rs 10,000 on each in connection with the murder of RJD MLA Saroj Yadav’s sister Shail Devi in 2016.

Shail Devi, sister of Barhara MLA Saroj, had gone to had gone to Chandi Tola to buy medicines on April 9 and when she was returning home on a three-wheeler, four miscreants in the auto tried to molest her.

When she resisted and raised an alarm, the men attacked her with an iron rod.

The villagers had admitted her to the Ara sadar hospital but doctors referred her to Patna Medical College and Hospital where she succumbed to her injuries on April 12.

Saroj lodged an FIR against Santosh Singh, Sudhir Kumar and Mithlesh Kumar. Additional and sessions judge IV Rajesh Kumar on Tuesday held all three accused guilty.

Saroj expressed satisfaction at the judgment but said he would move the higher court for capital punishment for the people responsible for his sister’s death.
