1 min readPatna: The Opposition in Bihar is seeing contest between Dalit leaders. Former chief minister Jitan Ram Manjhi and former Assembly Speaker Uday Narayan Chaudhary on Sunday sling mud at each other for ignoring Dalits, at separate functions in the state capital.
Manjhi celebrated the third foundation day of the Hindustani Awam Morcha (Secular), while Chaudhary organised Samvidhan Bachao, Desh Bachao rally at Gandhi Maidan, which Prakash Ambedkar, the grandson of BR Ambedkar, attended.
Manjhi said at his function: “Uday Narayan Chaudhary is ranga siyar (jackal) and a turncoat. His atrocities on Dalits in the state have gone up. It was due to Chaudhary that 16 MLAs from his party were disqualified leading to the fall of his government.”
After being removed from the CM’s post, Manjhi had accused Chaudhary of using unconstitutional means to force him to abstain from the Assembly proceedings in March, 2015. Manjhi and Chaudhary are both rebel JDU leaders and had left their parent party, targeting Nitish Kumar as anti-Dalit. Manjhi said RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav will be the chief ministerial face candidate of the Grand Alliance in 2020.
Though Manjhi was much vitriolic in attacking Chaudhary, the former Speaker, who had organised a rally at Gandhi Maidan which Prakash Ambedkar attended, refused to react much to Manjhi’s statement. Chaudhary said: “I congratulate him (read Manjhi) for his statement. My supporters will give a reply to his statement.”
