Pataliputra University staff served notices
2 min readGAYA: Pataliputra University has served dismissal notices on its teaching and non- teaching employees presently deputed at Magadh University (MU), Bodh Gaya.
They have been given time till June 30 to report to the parent institutions, failing which, their services will stand terminated from July 1, 2018. The warning has been issued through letter no 196/PPU/18 dated 22-06-18 by the registrar, Pataliputra University, Col Kamesh Kumar. Copy of the letter is available with this newspaper.
The letter addressed to MU registrar says that such employees have to be relieved from Magadh University latest by 30 June, i.e. before the formal commencement of the academic session 2018-19.
The sudden move has come as a bolt from the blue, as, almost all the senior positions in MU including that of registrar (Shailesh Kumar), controller of exam (Bimal Prasad Singh), inspector of colleges (Arts), Anjum Ashrafi and Ramayan Prasad, director, distance education department, are manned by teachers from colleges now falling under Pataliputra University.
As per earlier understanding, for the sake of continuity and smooth transition, such employees were to be allowed to continue in MU service till March’2019 i.e. one year after the establishment of Pataliputra University.
Altogether, 25 constituent and three government-funded minority colleges falling in the administrative jurisdiction of Patna and Nalanda districts have been attached with Pataliputra University, while MU retains 19 constituent and one government-funded minority colleges. MU has retained colleges located in the five districts of Magadh division.
Justifying the decision to recall teachers and non-teachers deputed in MU offices, Pataliputra University vice-chancellor (VC) C Gulab Chand Jaiswal said that no commitment was made by him or any other university official to allow teachers holding important positions in the Magadh University administration for one year.
Asked if he was serious about carrying out the dismissal threat, Jaiswal said the registrar’s letter was self-explanatory.
“A final call in the matter has to be taken by the university syndicate,” added the vice-chancellor of the newly-created university. MU vice-chancellor Prof Qamar Ahsan was not available for his version on the issue.
