Bheldi SHO among 5 killed in Saran accident

Patna: Bheldi station house officer (SHO) Amit Kumar and at least four other persons were crushed to death in an accident under the Bheldi police station area in Saran district late Saturday night.

Muzaffarpur zonal IG Sunil Kumar told TOI over the phone that Kumar, along with a police team, was clearing the road where a tanker and a jeep had collided. “It was then that a bus passing through the road crushed several persons, including the SHO, standing on the road. The driver drove off the bus,” the IG said.

He said some people also died in the accident, but their exact number was not known till going to the press at 11.15pm. He said Saran SP Har Kishore Rai and some other senior police officers had reached the spot.

He said efforts are on to trace the bus and arrest the culprits. The IG said all police stations in Saran and neighbouring districts were alerted.

Saran civil surgeon Lalit Mohan Prasad said the bodies of at least five persons, including Kumar, were brought to the sadar hospital. “I will be able to say anything further only after taking account of the situation,” he said.
