Rs 550cr plan to improvepower supply in Patna
2 min readPatna: Bihar government has prepared a Rs 550-crore modernization plan to improve power distribution system in Patna, finance minister Bijendra Prasad Yadav informed Bihar assembly on Friday.
Replying to a question of Nitin Navin (BJP), the minister admitted shortage of engineers and technicians as also materials which had become a hindrance in improved power supply in the state capital. The power supply network in Patna was over 50 year old. Two training centres have been set up in Patna to train the new employees appointed on contract.
The minister said there were 4.18 lakh power consumers in Patna, of which 1.43 lakh had complained of snag, called jumping jack in technical parlance, in their meters. Bihar State Power (Holding) Company Limited has replaced 29,057 meters and for the remaining defective meters, replacement camps would be organized. Nitin Navin earlier said that CMD of the power firm had fixed May 31 as the deadline for replacement of defective meters.
Leader of opposition Nand Kishore Yadav alleged the power consumers in Patna were harassed at the offices of the power company. Their complaints are not heard and even for correction in energy bills, they have to pay bribe, he said. There are large-scale complaints of inflated bills. People pay even inflated bills for fear of disconnection of power supply, Yadav said.
Replying to a question of Surendra Prasad Sinha (BJP), the minister said burnt or damaged transformers in different villages under Gurua and Guraru blocks in Gaya district would be changed by December this year. The member claimed that transformers in these villages were burnt in 2010 and the government had promised their replacement long back. In some villages, transformers were stolen, Sinha said.
Art and culture minister Vinay Bihari, while replying to a question of Sanjay Singh Tiger (BJP) said the Bhojpur DM was on July 9 asked to send a detailed report on the condition of ancient Bhawani Devi temple and Banasur pond at Masadh village under Udwantnagar block. The government will promote the place as a tourist attraction, he said.
