2 students killed, 8 critical as train engine hits school van

The engine, on its way to Ara from Sasaram, hit the school van carrying 11 children when it was crossing the tracks at the unmanned crossing.

Two students were killed and eight others, including the driver of a school van, were seriously injured when a rail engine rammed the vehicle at an unmanned railway crossing in Dhanauti of Bihar’s Bhojpur district on Tuesday afternoon, police said.

The engine, on its way to Ara from Sasaram, hit the school van carrying 11 children when it was crossing the tracks at the unmanned crossing.

The vehicle was thrown off the tracks, police said.

The two children, who died on the way to hospital, have been identified as Vishal Kumar (10) and Amit Kumar (12), they said. The condition of the others admitted to Ara Sadar hospital was critical, police added.
