Bihar junior doctors ready to call off strike

PATNA: After meeting with the principal secretary of state health department on Thursday afternoon, around 700 junior doctors decided to call off the strike and resume their duty from the mid-night.

The medicos went on strike after four of their colleges were arrested by the Patna police on Monday evening for creating ruckus during the ongoing counselling for reserved category which was then cancelled. FIRs were also registered against 20 other medicos. The junior doctors also alleged lathi charge on them by the cops. Their immediate demand was release of four junior doctors, to take back the FIR registered on others and also to take action on police for canning them.

While talking to TOI, principal secretary health, RK Maghajan said, “Four of the medicos have been released and as far as other demands are concerned, we have forwarded to the home department to do further inspection.”

It is to be noted that around 750 junior doctors went on strike on Tuesday mid-night after which health system was badly hampered. Eight patients died on Thursday and seven had died on Wednesday, leading to total toll of 15 in two days.
