giriraj-singh2Bharatiya Janata Party leader Giriraj Singh finds himself in serious trouble over the Rs1.14 crore cash, US $600 and expensive jewelry and watches found in his house in Patna. These items were recovered from four thieves who robbed the minister’s house and have claimed that all items, including the wads of cash were found at Singh’s house.

Accordingly, the Patna Police has started questioning the BJP leader from Bihar regarding all the valuables recovered from his house. Singh, who is an MP from Nawada, while filing nomination papers in May, had said that he had cash worth Rs2 lakh.

While Giriraj Singh has claimed that he is clean and the Rs1 Crore worth of cash belonged to a cousin of his, opposition parties are not letting go of a chance to lash out at the ruling party.

Congress, the JDU and the RJD  have demanded strict action against Giriraj Singh, seeking a thorough investigation into the matter. The three parties have also demanded that Singh is taken into Police custody and his Parliament membership is terminated, claiming that the cash recovered was ‘black money’. During Bihar Legislative Assembly session on July 9, JDU, RJD and Congress MLAs staged demonstration in the well of the house asking for strict action against Singh.

Former Chief Minister of Bihar, Nitish Kumar, expressing surprise over the amount of cash and US dollars recovered, said, “The volume is big. It raises question as from where did it come?”  Meanwhile, JDU MLAs held dharna demanding arrest of Giriraj Singh.

Former Chief Minister and RJD leader Rabri Devi too said the amount recovered was surprising and asked the authorities to conduct proper inquiry into the matter.

Despite, such a widespread outrage against Giriraj Singh, the BJP has described the incident as a ‘non-issue’ and hit back at other parties for creating ruckus and disrupting the Parliament session over trivial matters.
