Bootlegger shot dead by friend

Phulwari: A youth was shot dead by his friend over an alleged dispute over money early Wednesday morning at Phulwari in Patna .

Sources said the two youths had a dispute over sharing money they had accumulated through liquor bootlegging.

The victim, identified as Suraj Choudhary, a resident of Sangat, was called by his “friend” Shekhar Choudhary in Ranipur where he was gunned down.

Ajit Kumar, the station house officer of Phulwari police station, said: “We have detained some of the family members and friends of Shekhar for interrogation. The reason behind the murder could be ascertained only after interrogation.”

The murder left residents of Ranipur in shock. Sources said the criminals after shooting Suraj fled from the spot by firing in the air. Suraj was rushed to the primary health centre in Phulwari from where he was referred to Paras HMRI. Doctors at Paras declared him brought dead.

Niraj Paswan, who runs a grocery shop in Ranipur, said: “The incident is shocking. This is the first time criminals have used weapons in group clashes.”
