congressCongress which has got three seats in the seat-sharing for coming Legislative Council poll in early July for the second day today “imported” JD(U) sitting member to field them from their alloted quota.

Sitting JD(U) MLC Mohammad Israel Raen today joined Congress and is all set to contest the July 7 poll for 24 Legislative Council election from Congress.

Yesterday, Rajesh Ram another JD(U) sitting MLC had crossed over to Congress and is tipped to be fielded in the same election from Bettiah.

In the seat-sharing pact among grand secular alliance, Congress got three seats of West Champaran (Bettiah), Saharsa and Purnea.

JD(U) and RJD got 10 seats each while NCP received one in Katihar.

When mediapersons asked the state Congress President Ashok Choudhary that in the absence of suitable candidates the party was “importing” candidates from other parties, he said every party was doing so and this was nothing unusual.

“Its a different election in Bihar this time and all the secular parties have to field strong candidate to defeat BJP and its allies,” Choudhary told reporters defending induction of JD(U) Legislators into his party.

Asked about media reports that Congress was all set to receive another sitting MLC from other party for the third seat of his quota, Choudhary did not give a direct reply.

The political history of Bihar suggests that with the emergence of Janata Dal in the state in early 90s, Congress lost ground in Bihar and today it does not have many strong leaders in its rank.
