‘Drunk’ cop raids woman’s house at night, suspended

PATNA: Begusarai SP Aditya Kumar on Wednesday suspended an assistant sub-inspector (ASI) posted at Mufassil police station for allegedly entering the house of a woman at midnight on the pretext of conducting an investigation.

Sources said the woman was alone at home when the ASI, Santosh Kumar Thakur (48), reached there. “The woman’s husband has been evading arrest in connection with an FIR lodged against him for allegedly thrashing his neighbour’s son. Thakur was not the investigating officer in the case,” sources said.

The SP said the ASI was suspended following an inquiry report submitted by SHO of Mufassil police station Lal Mohan Singh.

The whole incident was recorded by the woman and her neighbours. A police team was later sent to the woman’s residence to bring back the ASI, who had refused to leave the house and even removed his shirt to take rest.

“Thakur was not found in an inebriated when he was brought back to the police station,” the SP added.

Police sources said even though the ASI was behaving weirdly, no medical test was conducted on him to establish whether he was drunk or not. The woman had accused the ASI of entering her house in an inebriated state.
