EC transfers Bihar Home Secy, 7 DMs, 9 district police chiefs ahead of polls

In a major reshuffle in the run-up to the Bihar assembly polls, the Election Commission on Friday transferred the state’s Home Secretary, nine District Magistrates and seven district police heads from their posts. The EC further ordered the Bihar Chief Secretary to ensure the transferred officials are “not posted to any election-related post”. The EC has also sought a compliance report from the state within 24 hours.
Following EC’s order Bihar Home Secretary Amir Subhani will now be replaced by 1983-batch IAS officer Sudhir Kumar Rakesh as the state’s new Home Secretary. The EC has also decided to post new officers as District Magistrates in Patna, Gaya, Darbhanga, Kaimur, Purnea, Madhubani, Katihar, Lakhisarai and Supaul. Similarly, the EC has ordered posting new officials as Senior Superintendents of Police/ Superintendents of Police in Patna, Gaya, Purnea, Supaul, Nawada, Lakhisarai, Patna (Rural).
