2 min readPATNA: Unidentified armed criminals shot dead a farmer Umashankar Singh (55) near Misarpura Pul under Naubatpur police station area in Patna on Sunday evening.
Phulwarisharif SDPO Ramakant Prasad immediately rushed at spot after the incident, said that Singh had gone to market with one of his nephew on a two-wheeler to purchase vegetables and the incident took place when he was returning.
“As soon as he left the market area and approached the road going to his village Choti Tangraila, two youths on a bike approached from behind and opened fire on Singh from a close range,” Prasad said adding few empty cartridges were also recovered from spot.
SDPO Prasad said that Singh was shot in head by the criminals. “His nephew escaped the attack unhurt,” Prasad said. He said that Singh was rushed to a nearby hospital where doctors tried to resurrect him but failed.
He said that police had nabbed a youth named Ajay Kumar (25) from the market area in connection with the murder.
“It was Ajay who had ascertained the identity of Singh and indicated the killers whom they had to kill,” he said adding the murder was fallout of an old personal enmity of Singh with other family members over property dispute.
He said Singh’s son Dheeraj Singh (28) was also murdered due to the same enmity by one of his nephew Rupesh Singh (25) almost two years back. “Singh later had attack Rupesh in Punpun last year but he managed to survive. At least three persons have died over the dispute in last few years,” SDPO added.
